Watch servicing and full overhaul in Delhi
A service is not a repair. It is the strip, clean, oil and regulate that a healthy watch needs before wear turns into damage. Done in time, it saves the repair that follows neglect.
Why a healthy watch needs servicing
Watch oils do not last. They thin, spread and dry out, and once a pivot is running dry it begins to cut into its jewel or bushing. Nothing looks wrong from the outside. The watch keeps time, the crown turns, and the wear goes on quietly inside the movement. A full overhaul catches that stage. We strip the calibre down, clean every part, fit fresh oils in the right grades and set the beat and rate again. It is preventive work, done before a fault appears rather than after.
Inside a full overhaul
The movement comes out of the case and is taken apart to the last screw. Mainspring out of the barrel, balance off, escapement lifted, train wheels laid out. Everything goes through cleaning, then dries before reassembly. Worn parts are replaced, not oiled over. The mainspring is renewed where it has set, pivots and jewels are checked for scoring, and each point is oiled with the grade it calls for. Then the rate is checked and regulated in several positions until it holds.
The case, crystal and seals
A service is not finished at the movement. The case comes apart too. We clean the case and bracelet, tidy the crystal where we can, and fit new gaskets at the back, the crown and the pushers. Old rubber goes hard and stops sealing long before you notice water inside. The dial and hands are handled with tissue and tweezers, never fingers. Everything is refitted, the watch is run and watched over a full cycle, and only then does it come back to you.
About watch servicing & overhaul
How often should a mechanical watch be serviced?
There is no single answer, since it depends on the calibre, how hard the watch is worn and the Delhi climate. Dust and humidity are not kind to movements. As a rule, a mechanical watch that has gone several years without attention is worth opening. We check it, tell you whether it truly needs an overhaul, and quote before starting.
My watch keeps good time. Is a service still worth it?
Yes, and that is the best moment for it. Good timekeeping only tells you the escapement is still coping. It says nothing about dry pivots or a mainspring that has set. Servicing a healthy watch is a clean job with no broken parts to chase. Leave it long enough and the same watch becomes a repair.
Do you service quartz watches as well?
We do. A quartz movement still has a gear train, pivots and lubrication, and it still sits in a case with gaskets that age. A service covers cleaning, fresh oil where the calibre needs it, a new cell, new seals and a check of current draw. It is lighter work than a mechanical overhaul, and we quote it separately.
