Watch Crystal and Glass Replacement in Delhi

A cracked crystal is not only a cosmetic problem. It is an open door for dust and moisture into the movement. We fit acrylic, mineral and sapphire crystals to quartz, mechanical and vintage watches across Delhi-NCR.

Three kinds of crystal

Acrylic is plastic. It scratches easily but it polishes out, and it takes a knock without shattering. That makes it right for many vintage watches, where a domed acrylic also suits the original look. Mineral glass is harder and stays clear longer, but a deep scratch stays. Sapphire is the hardest of the three. It shrugs off daily wear and is what most modern and luxury watches carry. It can still crack under a sharp impact. We match the crystal to the watch, the case and the way you wear it.

Why a crack is urgent

A hairline crack looks harmless. It is not. Every change in temperature pulls air through that line, and with the air comes humidity and dust. Inside the case, moisture settles on the dial, fogs the underside of the glass and starts rust on steel parts of the movement. A quartz watch can short at the coil. A mechanical one picks up corrosion on pivots and springs. The longer a cracked crystal stays on the wrist, the larger the repair becomes. Bring the watch in early and the job usually stops at the glass.

How we fit the glass

The case back comes off first so the movement and dial can be protected or removed. Old glass and any gasket or tension ring are lifted out, and the seat in the case is cleaned of shards and old adhesive. We measure the aperture rather than guess, then press or glue the new crystal square to the case, depending on how it was made. Gaskets are renewed where the case takes them. We check the case closes correctly before it leaves the bench. We will tell you what the case can hold back and what it cannot.

Questions

About crystal & glass replacement

Can a scratched crystal be polished instead of replaced?

Often, yes. Acrylic polishes well, and light marks on it disappear completely. Mineral glass can be improved but deep scratches will not come out. Sapphire cannot be polished in any practical way. We look at the depth first and tell you honestly whether polishing will do the job or whether a new crystal is the sensible choice.

Will my watch be water resistant again afterwards?

We renew the gaskets and seat the crystal properly, and we check the case closes correctly. What we will not do is quote you a depth rating. That figure belongs to the case as it left the factory, and an old case, a worn crown tube or a tired case back can all change it. We will tell you what we find.

Do you replace crystals on vintage and luxury watches?

Yes. Quartz, mechanical and vintage pieces, luxury brands included. Vintage cases often need a domed acrylic to look right, and some need the old tension ring reused or matched. Luxury cases usually take sapphire and a precise press fit. Bring the watch to the workshop in South Delhi, or ask about a home visit within Delhi-NCR.
