Antique Clock Restoration in Delhi

You have inherited a clock. It has stopped, and you are afraid the wrong hands will ruin it. We restore antique clocks across Delhi with traditional techniques, keeping original parts wherever they can be saved.

Restore, do not over-restore

Over-restoration destroys more antique clocks than neglect does. A movement stripped bright, a case sanded back, a dial repainted in fresh white: each one removes the evidence of age that gives the clock its value. Our rule is simple. We do the least that will make the clock run correctly and safely. Original wheels, arbors and pivots stay in the movement wherever they can be saved. Honest wear is left alone. Where a part has failed beyond use, we make a replacement in the traditional manner and keep the old one for you.

Work that can be undone

Reversibility is the test we apply to every decision. Anything we add should be able to come off again without harming what was there first. That means traditional materials: hide glue rather than modern adhesive, shellac rather than hard lacquer, hand-cut bushings rather than a smear of solder across a worn pivot hole. It means repairs made to the original pattern, not improvised shortcuts. If a later owner or a specialist conservator wants to take our work back out in thirty years, they can. The clock stays itself, and its history stays readable in the metal and the wood.

We come to the clock

A longcase clock should not be bundled into a car. The weights, the pendulum with its bob, and the fragile suspension spring all need to come off in the right order, and the case itself is rarely as sound as it looks. So we visit. We assess the movement, the strike train and the case in your home, explain what we have found, and give you a free estimate with the cost and an estimated timeframe before anything is touched. If the movement must come to the workshop, we remove it properly and leave the case standing safely. We cover Delhi-NCR.

Questions

About antique clock restoration

Will restoration reduce my clock's value?

Not if it is done conservatively. Value is lost when original material is thrown away: a repainted dial, a case stripped and re-polished, bright new wheels in place of old ones. We keep what can be kept, record what we change, and return every part we remove. The clock should look its age when we hand it back.

My grandfather clock has not run for years. Is it beyond help?

Rarely. A clock that has stood still for decades is usually dirty, dry and worn at the pivots rather than broken. Old oil turns to a paste that grinds the bearing surfaces. Once the movement is cleaned, the worn holes bushed and the pivots burnished, most of these clocks run again. We will tell you honestly if yours is the exception.

Do you replace missing parts with modern components?

Only when nothing original survives and the clock cannot work without it. Then we make the part to match the original pattern, in the traditional way, so it sits correctly with the rest of the movement. The old component, if we still have it, goes back to you in a bag. Nothing is discarded without asking you first.
