Clock Repair and Servicing Across Delhi NCR
Some clocks do not need a restorer. They need a repairer. If yours has stopped, gains an hour a week, or strikes thirteen at noon, bring it in and we will tell you what it needs to run reliably again.
Repair is not restoration
These are two different jobs and we keep them separate. Restoration is conservation work on a piece whose value lies in its originality. Repair is about function: your wall clock, mantel clock or everyday household piece needs to keep time and strike on the hour. Here we can fit a sound modern bushing, renew a tired mainspring, or replace a broken suspension spring without agonising over patina. The work is still done properly, by hand, on the bench. But the goal is a clock you can wind on Sunday and forget about until next Sunday.
Cleaning, oiling and regulation
Most stopped clocks are not broken. They are choked. Oil thickens, dust binds to it, and the escapement no longer receives enough power to keep the pendulum swinging. A full service means stripping the movement, cleaning every plate and wheel, inspecting each pivot and pivot hole, bushing what has worn oval, and oiling only the points that should be oiled. Then the clock is regulated: the pendulum bob raised or lowered until it holds time over days, not minutes. We run it on test before it goes home.
Chimes, strikes and cuckoos
A chime that plays the wrong quarter, or a strike that counts eight at three o'clock, is usually a warning rather than a disaster. The strike train has slipped out of sequence, a lever is bent, or the rack is not dropping cleanly. Cuckoo clocks bring their own troubles: worn bellows tops, a silent call, chains jumping their sprockets. We set the trains back in step, correct the hammer fall so the note is clean, and check that the hands line up with what the clock is actually saying.
About clock repair & maintenance
How often should a working clock be serviced?
Think of it like any machine with moving parts under load. A clock in regular use benefits from a clean and oil every few years, and sooner if it lives in a dusty room or near an open window. Waiting until it stops is what causes real wear, because dry pivots cut into their holes. We will advise on a sensible interval for yours.
Can I just oil the movement myself?
We would rather you did not. Household oil and sewing machine oil spread across the plates, collect dust and turn into grinding paste. Oil also belongs in specific places only, and never on the wheel teeth. A movement that has been oiled without cleaning usually needs more work later, not less. Ask us first and we will tell you what is safe.
Do you work on quartz and battery wall clocks too?
Yes. Quartz movements, battery mantel clocks and modern chiming units are all part of everyday repair work. Sometimes the fix is a coil or a set of hands; sometimes the sensible answer is a new movement fitted neatly behind an old dial you want to keep. We will say which it is, quote the cost upfront, and let you decide.
